WATERVILLE, ME – Sandra Fernald Picurro died peacefully Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville. Sandy was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Greenville, S.C. She grew up in Needham, Mass., and graduated from Russell Sage College in 1970.

As a physical therapist, Sandy provided her patients with comfort, relief and hope; as a mentor and teacher, she shared her expertise with those in the physical therapy field. She loved raising her two sons, John and Matthew, both of Boston and Waterville. In addition to her sons and John’s fiancee, Vicki Sheble, she leaves her mother, Mary Dickert of Needham, Mass.; her sister, Francie Fernald and her husband, Jim Phillips, of McLean, Va.; her brother, David Fernald and his son, Michael, of Sunfish Lake, Minn.; her brother, John Fernald of Index, Wash.; and her stepmother, Virginia Fernald of Bridgewater, N.H. Her father, Dr. John Fernald predeceased her.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Thomas College, 180 West River Road, Waterville, in the Atrium of the Student Center. Please bring some garden flowers or make a donation in Sandy’s name to Dove Villas, 1150 Jimmy Ann Drive, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
